I came to observance as an adult.

Which means I spent years building a home with taste that had nothing to do with Judaism, and then had to figure out how the two fit together. When I went looking for Judaica that matched the rest of my house, I mostly found two things: heirloom pieces meant to be inherited, and gift shop items meant to be given once and forgotten.

Neither belonged on my table.

So I started designing what I couldn't find. Challah covers you'd leave out on purpose. Brit milah signs that look like they belong at the event. A sukkah mural instead of paper chains.

There's an old idea called hiddur mitzvah - that a mitzvah should be done beautifully. A finer etrog, a nicer tallit, a more beautiful sukkah. It's not decoration for its own sake. It's the belief that how something looks is part of how it's done.

That's the whole business.
